Biography

Johnny Wells (he/they) is an multidisciplinary artist who currently resides in Roca, Nebraska. Their work deals with themes, such as queer visibility as resilience and resistance in the face of an oppressive regime that seeks to erase queerness at all levels of society. Johnny celebrates the inherent queerness found in what some describe as the delightfully weird. Johnny holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from University of Nebraska, Omaha. His self-published book, The Little Book of Thrift Store Dolls, was part of the UNO Art Gallery’s Art Alumni exhibition in 2025. Most recently, his work was part of the Artivism exhibition and ACLU 60th anniversary celebration at Clover24.
